I love decorating with letters and numbers with significance. I have lots of letter D’s {representing our last name} all over our house and I love decorating with numbers and even ampersands to represent my business. I’ve had a metal number seven sitting on my desk since I went to Canton First Monday Trade Days right after Tate was born. {The seven is for the seven members of our family.} Because it won’t stand well on its own {the number seven is a little top heavy and lacking a good base}, I turned it into really simple framed family number wall art.
I dug a red wooden frame out of the “someday” pile in the garage. If you don’t have a someday pile where you store all those items you know you’ll use eventually, check out your local thrift store. I don’t think I’ve ever been in a thrift store that doesn’t have a huge selection of frames in some random aisle.
I cut a piece of cardboard to fit the frame then backed it with a piece of burlap from my fabric stash and hot glued it in place on the back to hold it taut.
I placed the cardboard back into the frame and then hot glued the number 7 in the center of the burlap and the frame.
To finish it off, I distressed the frame slightly by sanding up the edges and corners of the frame.
I like the rustic tone and the simplicity of it. It’s such a simple project but has great symbolism. Lucky number seven.

And, since I live in Canton (MI) I was caught by the Canton link and almost exploded when I saw which Canton it was!!! I L.O.V.E First Mondays!! I lived in Dallas for 3 years and spent many First Mondays (I was single back then and had more flexibility in my schedule!) in Canton. When we visit, I try to schedule it around a First Monday trip. YAY!!

What a great idea…our family number is 6 and that’s a fun way to show it off.

LOVE it, especially the red frame. I have a 4 framed in my kitchen for exactly the same reasons, and it always makes me smile when I pass it by 🙂
