Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Biscuits

Today was the annual baking of the homemade dog biscuits that I give to all the family dogs for Christmas each year. This year I made a peanut butter oatmeal dog biscuit that was a big hit with the furry canine crowd.

My sweet bulldog taste tester approved of the final results.  This is actually his happy look {wink}.

To make these simple homemade dog cookies, you’ll just need a few basic ingredients that you likely already have in your pantry.  You can use any shape of cookie cutter, obviously, but I always like to cut them out with a dog bone shaped cookie cutter {affiliate link} in a couple of different sizes depending on the size of the dogs that will be eating them.  The bone shape is especially cute if you’ll be packaging these cookies up as a gift.

 Peanut Butter Oatmeal Dog Biscuits

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 large eggs

3 tablespoons creamy peanut butter

2 cups flour

1/2 cup cornmeal

1/2 cup oats

{As with any recipe for your pet, check with your vet before introducing any food into your pet’s diet.}

Blend the wet ingredients together in a bowl then add the dry ingredients and blend them together to form a ball of dough.  Dog biscuit dough is typically quite dry and it’s easiest to use your hands to squeeze it and mix it together.  You may be tempted to add more liquid but don’t!  The end result should be a dry biscuit.

Roll the dough out (I rolled them to a 1/2-inch thickness) and cut with a cookie cutter.  Place the biscuits on a lightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.  Turn the oven off and allow the biscuits to cool and harden then store them in an airtight container.  You may also want to keep them in the refrigerator to avoid spoiling.

And be warned: these peanut butter oatmeal dog biscuits may cause a terrible begging habit in your pup!

    Hi! I’ve made your carrot treats a couple of times and dogs love them! I tried making the peanut butter oatmeal biscuits recently. I think something may be wrong with the recipe listed. They came out super oily (bubbling oil after 20 min in the oven). The mixture seemed oily and wet before baking. Otherwise, I love your site!

      I’ll have to try that one again … it’s been years since I’ve made it. Sorry it wasn’t successful for you!
