When my oldest daughter was a little girl, we attended a Nutcracker Tea at Christmas many years in a row. It was held at a little tearoom where the girls {and their moms} dressed up, dined on plates of goodies, and watched a snippet of a live Nutcracker ballet production. It was such a fun time and a beloved tradition and we have great memories from those outings. Now that Lila is a bit older, I thought about taking her to a similar event but decided instead to invite a friend over and have our own little Nutcracker Tea at home. If you’re thinking about hosting a holiday party, check out these cute and easy Nutcracker tea party ideas.
Nutcracker Tea Party Table Decorations
I used a small table from our playroom and set it next to the Christmas tree to create some ambiance and make it feel festive, then added a few fun details in pink and red tones. {For whimsical Nutcracker tea party decor, check out the adorable nutcracker decor and craft products at Oriental Trading.}
I set a puffy wand and a shimmery crown at each place setting …
… and created a sugar plum tree as a centerpiece. I filled a plain glass vase with pink tulle, added bare branches from the yard, and poked colorful gumdrops onto the ends.
I added nutcrackers and gumdrops all around it …
… and a cloche filled with sugar plum fairy floss {inspiration found here}. You can buy fluffy pink cotton candy at most dollar stores or big box stores.
For a final touch, I nestled a little plastic mouse among the nutcrackers.
Nutcracker Tea Party Activities
During the playdate, the girls painted little wooden nutcrackers {we just used watercolor paints to make it less messy but you could break out the craft paint if you want more vivid colors} …
… that doubled as party favors at the end of the tea party.
The girls also made sugar plum lollies.
They placed large marshmallows on a popsicle stick and dipped them in melted chocolate and sprinkles …
… then ate them during snack time.
Nutcracker Tea Food Ideas
I served simple snacks that included crackers and cheese cut into star shapes with a small cookie cutter …
… and pink milk that added a bit of healthy fare to the otherwise sugary morning {I just colored the milk with food coloring but you could also use strawberry syrup to color it}.
While the girls ate their snacks, they watched clips of The Nutcracker Movie. They both seemed to love watching the beautiful dancers.
It was a very sweet girly morning and one that, I hope, will be remembered fondly by Lila and Claire.
Everything is better with tulle.
What a sweet idea! I’m sure this is a tradition that your daughter will remember as an adult!
That is so sweet! What a great Christmas idea!

Brilliant! I can’t wait until next year to try it! Thanks!
Where did you find the “naked” nutcrackers? Thanks!
You can find them at most craft stores this time of year … I know I’ve seen them at both Michaels and Hobby Lobby. Hope that helps!
