Bacon Dog Biscuit Recipe
1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup skim milk powder
1/3 cup bacon drippings
1 large egg
1 cup cold water
{As with any recipe for your pet, check with your vet before introducing any food into your pet’s diet.}
Combine both the flours and the milk powder in a large bowl. Drizzle with the bacon drippings.
Add the egg and cold water. Mix well to form the dough {if the dough is too sticky, add flour until it reaches a suitable consistency for rolling}.
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness. Cut with bone-shaped cookie cutters {affiliate link}.
Place on an ungreased baking sheet and bake at 300 degrees for 60 minutes.
This recipe will make about three dozen cookies, depending on the size of the cookie cutter.
Package the biscuits up in a cellophane bag with some cute ribbon and be prepared for a whole lot of dog appreciation!
Are both types of flour required for this recipe or can only whole wheat flour be used?
I haven’t tried making this recipe with only whole wheat flour but there’s no reason you can’t try it. Since whole wheat flour makes dough a lot drier, you’ll probably need to increase the amount of liquid.
Where can I find skim milk powder?
Skim milk powder, or any dry milk powder, can be found at most grocery stores, often in the baking aisle.
Where can I find bacon drippings?
You’ll need to make the bacon drippings yourself. The next time you cook bacon, save the drippings in a mason jar and store it in the refrigerator.
How should these dog treats be stored?
Store the biscuits in an airtight container. Refrigeration is not required.
Is bacon healthy for dogs?
Before adding any new food or altering your pet’s diet, it’s always best to check with your vet. I’ve heard conflicting reports on whether bacon is healthy or not. One thing to note: the amount of bacon drippings in this recipe is not a lot and it’s spread out over three dozen biscuits.

My eyes are bad so sometimes I miss something on a website. Is there a “print” icon on Pinterest that makes a printable version of recipes? This saves paper and ink. The pictures are beautiful, but I won:t be using P if I can’t print them out as cheaply as possible. These look like good recipes my dog would love. Thanks. Have a good weekend.
Randi Dukes says
I don’t have a printable version right now … can you just look at your computer as you’re making it so you save the ink? I always just pull my laptop into the kitchen.
Denise says
I right click the mouse and select print preview so I can view the pages to print noting which one(s) have the recipe, close out of print preview, right click mouse again, choose print and then select only the page(s) I want to print. I like to print out the recipes so I can make notes on them and mark them if the puppies like them or not. Hope this will help!

Do the biscuits need refrigeration? How long is their shelf life? My beagle is not asking these question.because I know she would eat them all in two days. But, I’m Mom, and I have to asking because Miss Beagle is getting to heavy. So I have a save Miss Beagle’s treats for special occasions.
Randi Dukes says
They don’t have to be refrigerated but probably won’t last more than a month in an airtight container. They would freeze well though.

Is there an alternative to bacon drippings? Not sure where to buy them hopw your recipe has an alternative 🙂
Randi Dukes says
You can just make your own. Cook some bacon and save the fat that’s left in the pan … that’ll be your bacon drippings!
Fran says
Thanks for the tip Randi! Much appreciated 🙂

Also good with peanut butter

Is there a reason why it isn’t all wholegrain flour? I’m just thinking that white flour really isn’t good for anyone. I know in people recipes you split between wholegrain and white flour for texture, but I’m guessing my dog isn’t going to care if it’s a bit grainy/gritty/tough.
Randi Dukes says
You can experiment with dividing it up or using all whole wheat. The whole wheat dough sometimes makes it so dry that it’s difficult to work with so you’ll likely need to alter the measurements.

These are GREAT! My Chinese Crested sit in front of the oven waiting for these to finish baking. They can’t get enough of them. But then again, who doesn’t love bacon? I even tasted one myself. Thank you. I’ll be trying out your other recipes as well.

where do i buy the powered skim milk at
Randi Dukes says
You can find it in the baking aisle at most grocery stores. Most powdered milk is low fat.

Pork is terrible for dogs, specifically the fat aka bacon drippings can cause pancreatititsand and colitis and can be fatal. This is not a good idea.
Jodi says
Since bacon fat isn’t healthy for dogs, I would use a bacon flavoring instead like Bacon Extract.
Kasey says
Please don’t use bacon grease, bacon,or any pork for your dogs I have worked in the vet field for 24 years and pork can cause pancreatits in dogs along with fat off meat also no grapes, raisins, onions, fresh garlic, chocolate. If you question this post please call your vets office.

Do you think it would be okay to substitute the wheat based flours with something like coconut flour or almond flour? We have Jack Russells and this breed really has trouble with wheat and grains affecting their skin. Thank you for this recipe. I have a feeling our fur babies will enjoy some of these as a special xmas surprise 🙂
Randi Dukes says
I think you can definitely experiment with that. You’ll likely need to alter the amount of flour. Just mix until you get a good, dry consistency. The good thing is, most dogs aren’t too picky so even if they’re not as tasty as the original, your dog probably won’t care. 😉
Ellen Prince says
thank you for this!!! I had no idea about pork or bacon. We have given this to our babies for about 12 months!!!!
Maggie says
These are awesome. My dog can’t wait till the next one. He’s talking more and demanding them when I’m in the kitchen cooking.
Randi Dukes says
I love it! My dog does the same thing!
Dorene says
Can these be shipped? I want to send them to my grand dog in Washington state.
Randi Dukes says
Definitely. They’re really hard so they would actually ship really well. Your grand dog is lucky! 🙂

Just made these and my English Bulldog is sitting at the counter begging for one to magically fall off. He doesn’t even do this with his treat jar.
Randi Dukes says
That makes me so happy! I miss our English Bulldog so much!
Tamara says
Hello, I’m definitely going to try this recipe. How long can you keep these cookies?
Paul says
These look great! I’ll try them for my Whippet Misty!
