Thanksgiving Break included many hours of assembly line sewing, creating these DIY chair pockets for Luke and Lila’s kindergarten class. Their teacher, Ms. Wright {who I adore}, heard that I sew and asked if I would help with this project.
Each student will now have a hanging pocket on their chair.
We used denim, mostly provided by a thrift store score, but any heavy fabric will work well.
A vinyl casing with one side left open can hold a name card and can easily be changed as seating plans change.
And the pocket can hold a few books which means less up and down action for all the kindergarten students. And less chaos for the teacher.
The pocket was made by sewing a long rectangle {measurements will depend on the size of the classroom chairs} then simply sewing the top down and the bottom up to create the piece that fits over the chair and the pocket.
The pocket hangs simply over the back of each chair {the pockets fit much better on the real classroom chairs than on my model chair}.
These chair pockets will be such a help in the classroom and were so simple to make, with only basic sewing skills required.
