Since reading The Creative Family (by SouleMama), I've loved the idea of embroidering early childhood drawings onto fabric and preserving them in some way. A month or so ago, I saved a picture Lila drew (a picture of me!) and then embroidered it onto a piece of white cloth. Today I completed the project by sewing the embroidered picture onto a piece of denim (I left the edges to fray and even left ... continue reading...
Chalk Dots
I love oilcloth (and chalk cloth too, for that matter), so these cute Chalk Dots at Oilcloth Addict were a must-make. All the supplies were in my stash and the entire project took less than ten minutes to cut out and sew. I made a larger one for Kennedy that she can use to work out math problems or whatever homeschooling dilemma comes her way. It's always more fun to scribble with chalk than ... continue reading...
The Final (unless-insanity-kicks-in) Paint Job
I finished the final pre-baby paint job. Kennedy's room was the last of the kids' rooms and I couldn't leave it unpainted ... especially since it was the only one that had been painted by the previous owners and was in major need of a re-do. The existing paint job wasn't awful but the color (which doesn't show clearly in these photos) was a very dirty-looking, baby poop yellow. It was fine ... continue reading...
A Welcome Home Surprise
Elijah arrives home tonight after a month away. I can't wait to see his face and have him back home. A month felt like a very long time. While Eli was away, I painted his room and added a couple of elements. I think he'll be completely surprised. He's been discussing color choices for quite some time so I'm sure the shades of gray will meet his approval. I painted the top of the room in ... continue reading...
Attire for the Welcoming Committee
With previous deliveries, I've never had special shirts for the other siblings to wear to the hospital but decided this time around I wanted them, at least for Luke and Lila. Kennedy decided she wanted one too. Elijah, of course, did not. He's definitely outgrown the cutesy side of life. The fabric applique letters were inspired by a blog I saw recently but I forgot to bookmark it and have no ... continue reading...
A Pink Bathroom for Girls
Yesterday I painted the girls' bathroom. I used a shade darker than the room {Pink Chintz} ... let's hope both girls like pink for years to come. This vintage silver baby brush belonged to my mom and I thought it would be a cute accent on the wall. The frame surrounding it was found in the garage. The ribbon-embellished tin has been in Lila's bathroom for a while and holds hair ties. Two ... continue reading...
The Next Project
Since the day we've moved in, I've held great disdain for the window treatment in the master bathroom. Two scraps of faded floral fabric crookedly hung on a painted wooden rod with a missing finial (and hung below the upper edge of the window). I've had plans to take it down but left it up until I had a plan in place. The window is frosted and doesn't technically need a window covering but I ... continue reading...
Shades of Pink
After much tribulation, Lila and Baby Five's room is almost complete. I need a few wall items but since I'm still really unsure what I want to hang, I'm going to wait. The room is a girly paradise ... shades of pink, doll beds filled with friends, and a table set for tea parties. I hope my girls will have lots of fun in this room and create special memories. I painted the walls (Cotton Candy ... continue reading...
Monogrammed Paintings
Luke and Lila had a little playdate this morning and it seemed like a good time to try an idea I saw on Plum Pudding (found originally on Blissful Kids). I printed the initial of each toddler, traced it onto Contact paper, and stuck it in the middle of the paper. The kiddos watercolored all around their letter (and on their toes and the bricks on the house ....). When the paintings were dry, ... continue reading...
A Garden Tea
Kennedy hosted a Garden Tea for four friends this morning. We set the table under a shady tree in the backyard ... ... served girly food (mini cinnamon bagels with strawberry cream cheese, tiny cucumber sandwiches, strawberries with cream cheese dip) ... ... and peach iced tea (with heart-shaped ice cubes and straws adorned with paper butterflies). Flower cupcakes completed the ... continue reading...
Smiling Tea
My father-in-law is a big tea drinker so I've had this idea bookmarked for some time. How perfect to brew the morning tea while peeking at the smiling face of your grandchildren hanging from the tea tag. A little Father's Day surprise that I hope he enjoyed. I've started truncating my posts ... please pop over to my blog to read the rest! ... continue reading...
Homemade Yogurt Muesli
In the summer, when fruit is cheap and plentiful, this homemade yogurt muesli is one of our favorite breakfasts. We love to make a huge bowl of it, doubling or even tripling the recipe, and keep it in the fridge for daily breakfasts {and a few snacks, too}. We could eat it every day, all summer long if we could just keep the bowl full! You can customize this recipe by adding your ... continue reading...
A Cowboy Room
The infrequent blogging this week has been due to some major redecorating going on upstairs. It's time for the twins to move from cribs to beds and I decided to finally paint their rooms in the process {I've had the paint samples for two years}. I started with Luke's room and, with the exception of the quilt, it's complete. He now has a fun cowboy room. Last fall, I picked up some cute cowboy ... continue reading...
100 Days
Today marks one hundred days until the due date of Baby Five. My friend, Emily, recently made a baby countdown chain for her daughter, and then I saw the same idea in an old issue of FamilyFun. I thought the idea was so neat and a great way to help the little ones have something tangible and visible as we slowly approach the due date. When all those pink circles are gone, Baby should be ... continue reading...
