During the holiday season, and especially leading up to Thanksgiving, it’s important to me that my kids develop thankful attitudes. It’s so easy to get caught up in what we want for Christmas that we forget to focus on Thanksgiving and remember how blessed we are. To help maintain grateful hearts and attitudes in our home, this year I created a magnetic chalkboard thankful board.
It took me less than half an hour {including drying time} to make the board. I used a metal sheet, DecoArt clear chalkboard coating, and vintage scrabble letters with magnetic tape attached to the back {I borrowed the letters from our magnetic letter board}.
Following the manufacturer’s instructions, I used a foam brush to apply two coats of chalkboard coating to the metal sheet, letting them dry in between, then seasoned the board with chalk. If you haven’t used this coating before, you have to try it! It can turn any surface into a chalkboard!
I used the scrabble letters to spell out a message across the top …
… and each day the kids take turns writing on the board, sharing what they’re thankful for.
The chalk wipes easily off the chalkboard coating on the thankful board at the end of the day …
… and it’s ready for the next message.
It never hurts to have a little gratitude reminder.
