DIY Gratitude Jar for Thanksgiving

November has arrived and I’m so excited about it.  I love everything about this month!  Thanksgiving is a time I look forward to so much. It means time with family, celebrating all the blessings we’ve been given.  To get our minds in a place of thankfulness this month, we made this DIY gratitude jar and set it on the family table today.  It’s a super simple project and a small way to remind us all to count our blessings every day.

To make this simple gratitude jar, I used a leftover pickle jar and cleaned it out well to get rid of any residue or smell.

I cut a strip of burlap fabric and a narrower strip of Thanksgiving-themed scrapbook paper and wrapped them around the outside of the jar, using a dab of hot glue to hold them in place.

I wanted to update the lid a bit and keep it from looking so plain {and so bright white!} so I cut imperfect circles in various sizes from coordinating scrapbook paper, crumpled them a little to give them a posy appearance, and layered them on top of the lid, hot gluing them in place.  I added a little piece of burlap in the center.

Inside the jar, I placed a pile of pieces of paper.  We’ll all write on them throughout the month, adding things we’re grateful for, big and small.  I’ve encouraged the kids to add something every day.

We plan to read the strips of paper out loud at Thanksgiving dinner and then save them in our family scrapbook.  It’ll be fun to look back years down the road and remember what we were grateful for this year.

I think you’re the only person I know who loves November! The Gratitude Jar is a great idea. Do you have any helpful hints for February? Even tho Travis & Becky both have birthdays that month, it’s my least favorite. I’m open to your creativity!

I popped in from the Midwestern Sewing Girl link-up. What a lovely jar! I’ve been debating about whether to go with a gratitude jar, or chain, or tree … If I could make a jar as cute as this, the decision would be easy!

What a sweet idea! I love the way you decorated your jar. I was thinking of doing something similar with branches for our big dinner.
