Love Mug {Made with Sharpies}

I saw the cutest Valentine’s Day love mug for sale in Starbucks the other day and I came home with plans to make my own.  This mug was so quick and simple to make and I love the way it turned out!

love mug made with sharpies

I used the sharpie technique to make this mug rather than a porcelain pen like I’ve used for past projects.  I’ve heard this technique won’t be dishwasher safe with regular sharpies so I’ll stick to hand-washing this mug rather than risk losing the design, however, if you use oil-based sharpies, it will be dishwasher safe.

love mug with ampersand

To make the love mug, I used a plain white mug {this particular mug came from Target but you can find cheap white mugs at Walmart, the dollar store, and IKEA as well} and vinyl stencils cut on my cutting machine.

I applied the stencils tightly to the mug and colored the spaces in with sharpies, red for the front ampersand …

… and black for the inside text.

I baked the mug at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to set it and then let it cool completely.  Isn’t it cute?  It would make a great Valentine’s Day gift or anniversary gift!

Have you tried the sharpie technique?  What did you think?

    This is adorable!!! I’ve never used the sharpie technique before, but I have used the porcelaine pens. I’m curious to know how it holds up.
