A Glittery Christmas Banner

I’m hosting a holiday open house this weekend and I wanted to make a cute banner for the wall above the food table.  I made a simple glittery Christmas banner using burlap and Martha Stewart Crafts glitter and I love it!

I rarely make anything with glitter but that is all changing!  I realized my lack of love for glitter has to do with the fact that I’ve been using the wrong kind.  I’ve only used kid glitter … you know the kind with the big flakes?  Martha Stewart Crafts glitter is very fine and it makes all the difference.

To make my banner, I cut triangles from burlap fabric and spray painted them lightly with antique white paint.  Ididn’t want them to be completely white but I wanted them to be a bit fainter than regular burlap.  The paint will also keep the edges from fraying.

I had a terrible time choosing which glitter color to use but I finally went with a bright red … it just felt like Christmas.

I made letter stencils with vinyl and my Silhouette and pressed them onto the burlap …

… then painted the letter area with Mod Podge and sprinkled the glitter on.  I tapped off the excess glitter and peeled the vinyl off right away {I didn’t want the Mod Podge to seal the vinyl onto the burlap}.

I used tiny clothespins to clip the triangles onto a piece of twine and it was finished: my simple but sweet “be merry” banner.

I love the way my Christmas banner turned out!  I’m already excited about coming up with another glitter project!

I received this glitter set in exchange for my review.  All opinions are my own … it’s my new favorite craft product!

Very cute! I am hoping to use some glitter today on a project but I’m not sure if I will have time.
