10 Ways to Repurpose Shutters

I have a real thing about shutters lately.  I eye them every time I’m at a vintage sale and I love to imagine fun ways to upcycle them.  I’ve got a few ideas of my own but I also gathered up 10 ways to repurpose shutters that will inspire!  I love the way these ideas incorporate unique design and fun colors … and add a personalized twist to the home!

10 ways to repurpose shutters

A shutter photo display is a super cute way to repurpose this old window fixture. Vintage pictures would look especially cute tucked into the wood slats.

I’m smitten with this kitchen island made from old shutters. It’s such a fabulous design … and you really should pop over to see the other islands this blogger has created. They’re fabulous!

A shutter coat rack would look perfect next to the front or back door … and it’s a classy way to store the outdoor garments.

Turn an old shutter into a magazine rack! This would be really cute in a bathroom, a bedroom, or a waiting room!

This is an idea I love and would like to do in my own home: a shutter valance! I want to find the chippiest old shutter and top a window with it!

Get ready to gasp at how perfect this idea is! If you love shutters, how about a whole shutter wall? The color scheme shown here really makes it, doesn’t it? The idea is amazing but it may be hard to find a whole pile of shutters like that.

Use old shutters to create a shutter headboard. This is such a simple idea but it adds a pop of texture and color and charm to the bed.

Upcycle old shutters into a charming side table. This would be an easy project even for an inexperienced builder … and how cute!

Or make a shutter coffee table instead. This entire table is made from repurposed wood, including old spindles for the legs. Isn’t it fun?

And finally, keep it simple and use a shutter as a table runner on a large dining table! It adds the perfect pop of vintage to the table!
