I’m really into lavender this summer: both growing it and using it in my kitchen, experimenting with different ways to use it in recipes. This week I used fresh lavender to create a lavender sugar recipe that’s delicious when used in place of regular sugar in cooking and baking. Check out this easy idea {that also makes a novel and inexpensive gift idea} and scroll to the bottom of the post to see three other easy recipes I’ve made with fresh lavender from my garden.
To make this simple lavender sugar recipe, you’ll need fresh or dried lavender flowers and white sugar.
The measurements aren’t exact but I combine approximately two tablespoons of fresh lavender flowers with about 1/2 cup of white sugar. Mix well.
Store the lavender sugar mixture in an airtight container for 1-2 weeks to allow the flavors to infuse …
… then use this lavender infused sugar in a number of fun ways!
Stir it into freshly squeezed lemonade or brewed iced tea. Use it in place of regular sugar in a lemon loaf or strawberry muffins, a pan of fudgy brownies, or a batch of oatmeal cookies. Sprinkle it over fresh fruit, like strawberries or blueberries. You can even stir it into a cup of coffee for a floral infused brew.
I’d love to hear how you’ve used lavender sugar and how you’ve cooked or baked with lavender or other edible flowers!
