A Metallic Thanksgiving Tablescape

I’m so happy it’s November because one of my very favorite holidays is coming up: Thanksgiving.  I love everything about Thanksgiving: family and friends gathering together, the Macy’s Day parade on TV, the smell of cider brewing on the stove, and delicious food being served at a gorgeous table.  Setting the Thanksgiving tablescape is one of my favorite tasks and this year I’ll be adding a metallic twist to our typically rustic table.

I really love all the metallic accents I’m seeing this fall and gold is quickly becoming one of my go-to colors for holiday decor.  I thought it would be fun to take a traditional turkey, jazz it up in gold, and add it to clear {plastic} plates set on top of traditional white dishes.

I love the way these plates look and they add a bit of glitz to the table.  You can find all the DIY details in my DIY gold turkey plates post.

Table linens for every occasion can be expensive and I like to find other options.  A plain white tablecloth topped with a festive table runner is a simple way to add color to a table.  Want to know what I used for this table runner?  Wrapping paper!  A simple roll of wrapping paper can be turned into a really great table runner … and after the meal you can either throw it away or, if it’s clean, you can roll it back up and save it for Christmas.

Glasses are a standard part of a table setting but they can also be a great way to add a bit of color to the table.  Amber glasses fit perfectly with a gold tablescape and add some height and shimmer to the table, especially when they’re filled with a clear liquid.

I love the little details so tiny individual salt and pepper pinch pots are a must.  Little individual salt and pepper shakers or individual butter containers are also fun.  {If you need some cute ideas for butter, be sure to check out my tutorials for mini monogrammed butter pats and wishbone shaped butter.}

And finally, all good tables have a centerpiece.  I like a collage-style centerpiece, a grouping of a few things that all work well together.  Since the Thanksgiving table is already fairly busy, nothing elaborate is needed.  This centerpiece is nothing more than a gold birdhouse, some gold floral picks, a few dollar store candles, and scattered crochet topped acorns.  I usually just look around my house for things that work well together and fit within a certain color scheme or style.

See how simple a tablescape can be?
