Thanksgiving Burlap Table Runner

I’ve been inspired by the abundance of burlap projects I’ve seen lately and intrigued by the freezer paper trend.  I decided to combine the two and make a Thanksgiving burlap table runner to use on our holiday table.  This project was so simple and quick to make and the final result is something that can be used for years.

To make a Thanksgiving table runner, you’ll first need to make a stencil using freezer paper.

Using a font you like, create the phrase in a word processing program and increase the size to fit the project then print it out.  You may need to print it on more than one page and tape the pieces together.

Cutting the stencil was a bit finicky but this is a great way to create a stencil when you don’t have a cutting machine like a Cricut.  Lay the phrase over the freezer paper, tape it in place, and use a craft knife to cut the letters out of the paper, creating a stencil.  You’ll want to cut out all the black space.

Lay the stencil, waxy side down, over the burlap {place a piece of paper or something else underneath so the paint doesn’t go onto your work surface} and use an iron to secure the freezer paper onto the burlap.

Use craft paint and a foam dauber and gently dab the paint on, covering all of the areas within the stencil.

Peel back the freezer paper and let the paint dry completely before using.

That’s all there is to it!

I left the colored edge on this rustic piece of burlap for a more salvaged look {I think this piece may have started as a coffee bag or something similar} and I can’t wait to use it on our Thanksgiving table.

I hope the burlap trend doesn’t end any time soon.

Love it. I have some burlap someone gave me and didn’t know what to do with it. I do now. Found you on CSI.
