Washi Tape Chalk Board

This washi tape chalk board post contains affiliate links.

My little girls have been spending lots of time drawing on the new washi tape chalk board I made for their room.  I love the way it turned out and, with all the great washi tape patterns available, you could easily make a chalk board to match every room of the house!

I used an old frame that a friend was getting rid of and spray painted it antique white then rubbed some brown stain into it to give it a bit of an aged look.  If you don’t have an old frame, check your local thrift store.  There are always frames available in every size, shape, and color.

I covered the original glass in the frame with alternating strips of washi tape in coordinating colors {you can use any combination of washi tape or even stick to one style for a simple look} …

… then used a foam brush to paint over the washi tape with a few coats of clear chalkboard coating.

This product allows you to turn any surface into a chalkboard.  Imagine the possibilities!  All it takes is a couple of coats over the surface.  I think it’s such a genius product and I can never figure out why I don’t see more projects using it.

I let the chalkboard coating cure for a day then seasoned it by coloring over it with the side of a piece of chalk.  Once the chalkboard is seasoned, you can write on it and the writing will wipe off easily.

The chalkboard is so cute in my little girls’ room and they love coloring on it.  I’m trying to remember to leave them sweet little surprise notes as well.

Have you tried using chalkboard coating?  I’d love to hear what you did with it.

I love washi tape projects and this is so cute! Where did you find the chalkboard coating? I saw it on another blog too but can’t remember if they said where it was from. I need to get some soon. 🙂

Oh my gosh, Randi, how cool is that!!! I will have to get my hands on some of that. And you’re combing two of my favorite things: washi tape and chalkboard! 🙂
