I love everything about fall, especially the festive decorating. Pumpkins are my favorite and I love creating whimsical repurposed pumpkins from other items. These upcycled embroidery hoop pumpkins are a great way to upcycle old craft supplies and, with flameless candles added, they’re the perfect cozy fall decor!
To make these upcycled embroidery hoop pumpkins, you’ll need embroidery hoops in various sizes {a set of hoops has two rings and you’ll need three rings per pumpkin}, orange spray paint or craft paint, brown craft wire, twill ribbon, burlap or other faux leaves, and a glue gun.
You’ll also need flameless candles {be sure the height will fit within the hoops without bumping into the top} and RAYOVAC® batteries for the candles.
I made a quick stop at the Battery Quad near the checkouts at Walmart and stocked up on a couple of different varieties of RAYOVAC® batteries. I bought both the RAYOVAC® FUSION™ and RAYOVAC® HIGH ENERGY™ batteries but used the RAYOVAC® HIGH ENERGY™ batteries for this project. They’re perfect for high use devices like flashlights, toys, or the flameless candles I used in these pumpkins.
RAYOVAC batteries {except 9V} are produced right here in America, in Fennimore, Wisconsin and have been powering America since 1906. RAYOVAC batteries last just as long as leading competitors but have a lower price point. With all the items in our house that use batteries, a lower price point is just what I’m looking for.
Save even more money by grabbing a coupon for the batteries here:
Start by taping off the hardware on the hoops then use spray paint or craft paint to paint the embroidery hoops orange.
Let them dry completely then place one hoop inside another and both of those hoops inside a final one with hardware on it. Space the hoops evenly. They should fit together tightly enough that you won’t need to use any adhesive but if they’re too loose, add a drop of hot glue to hold them in place.
Remove the screw from the outer embroidery hoop and glue the pieces together with hot glue.
Wrap twill ribbon around the hardware to create a coiled stem …
… then twist a piece of brown wire around the stem and coil it around a pen or pencil.
Attach a small leaf and you have a super cute upcycled pumpkin to add to your fall decor! Make a bunch to create an adorable pumpkin patch for the mantel!
You can display the pumpkins just as they are but to create a fall display that’s equally delightful at night, add flameless candles to the middle of some or all of the pumpkins.
Use RAYOVAC® batteries to keep the pumpkins glowing all season long!
These embroidery hoop pumpkins are the perfect way to recycle those embroidery hoops you’re no longer using …
… and end up with a modern, geometric looking fall display.
They’d look great on the mantel …
… or as a colorful fall centerpiece running down the middle of your tablescape.
How are you decorating this fall? However you choose to decorate, be sure to use RAYOVAC® batteries. RAYOVAC®, the one thing that’s a sure thing!

How do you get them to stand on end?
Mine just roll over.
Randi Dukes says
If the hoops are too close to each other, they’ll roll over but if you space them evenly, they’ll stand. Keep twisting them a bit to give the pumpkin a broader base.
Christina Woodcock says
Who knew hoops could be so cute as pumpkins! I love this idea!
