A Thanksgiving Tablescape for Kids

I received compensation from BHG at Walmart for my participation in the BHG Live Better Network. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. #BHGLiveBetter

I love Thanksgiving.  It’s my favorite holiday.  I love that the entire day is centered around a large meal enjoyed with people you love.  We often have a mixed group of family and friends and no matter who joins us, it just feels perfect.  And one of my favorite preparations for Thanksgiving is setting the tables.  Whether we have one large table or numerous small tables, we almost always have a table for the younger kids.  It’s different every year and I like to mix fun pieces together to create a spot that feels festive.  This year’s Thanksgiving tablescape for the kids is a neutral spot with owls, not turkeys, taking center stage!

I usually layer table linens to create a cozier setting.  It’s a great time to dig out those heirloom linens, cut a fabric runner, or grab some affordable tablecloths that can be used for lots of different parties and occasions.  I covered this table with a large white tablecloth, then placed a natural decorative runner over top.  On top of that, I centered a braided jute rectangular placemat {also from the Better Homes and Gardens line at Walmart} to add a bit of extra texture and depth.

Each place setting features a white owl plate from the seasonal line for BHG Live Better at Walmart.  I’m just smitten with this entire line of woodland creatures that includes foxes and squirrels as well as the owls.  I decided to go neutral so I can mix and match the white owls with other dishes for other occasions but I may have to scoop up the whole line.

To create a bit of whimsy at the kids’ table, I made simple owl napkin rings.  I made pom poms, trimmed the tops to create owl ears, and added eyes and a beak.  The pom poms are hot glued onto metal napkin rings.  When Thanksgiving is over, I’ll stick the whole thing in the freezer and the glue will pop right off the napkin rings so they can be used for other occasions.

I love table scatter or confetti for parties and holidays so I bought some small owl Christmas ornaments, cut the rings off the top, and used them as scatter across the middle of the table.  They add a fun touch of whimsy.

The jar looks so cute on the table {and can be used in the kitchen after Thanksgiving} …

… and it’s the perfect spot to stash paper and crayons so the kids can entertain themselves before or after {or even during} dinner.  I like having a bit of entertainment at my kids’ tables but hiding the items away in the cookie jar keeps the table looking neat and tidy.

Throwing together a cute Thanksgiving tablescape for the kids is so simple and a special spot to eat makes every holiday feel more festive!

What a cute table for the kids! I love the idea of storing the crayons in a cookie jar that completes the look! I just found the cutest Christmas wrapping paper yesterday that is printed with pictures for the kids to color. I think that will be my kids’ table tablecloth, I am borrowing this idea for stashing the crayons!

Love-love-love the idea of an owl themed tablescape. The added texture of the jute placemat is such a lovely detail.
