Rustic Bread Dough Napkin Rings

I’m always looking for fun new tablescape ideas and this week I came up with the idea of rustic bread dough napkin rings.  These napkin rings are made from refrigerated breadsticks and take about ten minutes to make … they’re quick enough to throw together before a dinner party and they add a really fun touch to the table that’s perfect for any rustic tablescape or even a big Thanksgiving or holiday dinner.

To make these rustic bread dough napkin rings, you need refrigerated breadsticks, an empty paper towel tube or metal tube, tin foil, and cooking spray.

{I didn’t have any trouble with the paper towel tube burning in the oven but don’t leave the dough unattended in the oven.  It needs to be watched the entire time to ensure the tube doesn’t burn.}

Wrap the paper towel tube in tin foil and spray it well with cooking spray {this will ensure that the napkin rings slide right off the roll after baking}.

Separate the refrigerated breadsticks and wrap each one around the foil-covered paper towel tube then squeeze the ends of the dough together to seal.

You can twist the breadsticks or add some embellishments but honestly, they don’t translate as well after baking.  Everything gets really bulky and I decided I liked the simpler ones the best.

Bake the bread according to the package directions and remember to watch it the entire time it’s in the oven to ensure it doesn’t burn.

Let the napkin rings cool completely, slide them off the paper towel tube, and they’re ready to use!

I love the rustic look of the napkin rings.  Aren’t they fun?

And if you want to jazz the edible napkin rings up a bit, you can use edible markers to add a cute monogram or even a whole name, turning the rings into place cards.

There you go … you’re all set for your next dinner party!

    This is the best idea! I think I’m using it at our next party. But, when do you set them out? Do you tell people right away?

      You can set them out an hour or so before … the outside gets a bit crusty but the inside is still soft.
