While I love buying Christmas gifts for my kiddos, the stocking stuffers are really my favorite things to buy. I enjoy finding just the right combination of trinkets for each child and I love seeing how happy they are when they pull them, one by one, out of their stocking. This year the kids will be pulling their goodies out of simple new stockings hanging on the mantel by retro upcycled stocking holders! You probably can’t guess what these stocking holders are made from!
I’m always inspired by random things that I see but the inspiration for the new mantel decor struck when I saw the BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages holiday collection at Target. Who would have thought this household staple would inspire our holiday theme? BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages are something we always have in our home. They’re the #1 Doctor Recommended Brand and they heal hurts faster.
Covered in red and green retro patterns, I fell in love and decided to use a similar theme for stocking holders. While I love the stocking hanger I made a few years ago, this year I have a new house with two mantels and I’m all about experimenting with some new mantel decor!
I grabbed a couple of boxes of BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages {always a favorite stocking stuffer for my younger girls} and went home to craft!
I love the simple, bold patterns and designs on these holiday BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages! The retro theme is always a favorite for me!
I thought the patterns were all so cute but when I saw the retro ornaments, I knew that’s what I wanted to use for the stocking holders.
I checked out the lumber stash in my garage and came across an old table leg, left over from my repurposed bench. The leg was shaped so I could easily cut three thick sections off and give them new life. The width and thickness made them perfect for sitting on the mantel without being pulled off by the weight of the stockings.
I spray painted the pieces with a couple of coats of white paint and, while they were drying, I used my Cricut to design the ornaments in Cricut Design Space, alter the colors a bit, and cut the pieces out of red, green, and silver vinyl. You could use any colors to match your decor but I liked the vivid colors used on the strips.
I applied the vinyl pieces to the side of the painted table leg pieces, leaving a space near the bottom for the hook. These table legs had the perfect flat spot on each side but you could always sand the side down a bit if your table leg is too rounded.
I screwed a cup hook into the bottom of each table leg …
… and placed them on the mantel!
The retro style looks perfect alongside my bubblegum machine filled with silver bells and a vintage crate holding ornaments.
Now they just need to hang for another week before they’ll be filled up with all kinds of fun items!
In keeping with tradition, my younger kids will get a box of patterned BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages {Paw Patrol and Star Wars BAND-AID® Brand Adhesive Bandages are also available at Target and would make great stocking stuffers for kids} along with all the other things they look forward to: patterned tissues, nail polish, chewing gum, seasonal candy, colorful socks, and a pile of other novelties.
What do you put in the stockings at your house?
