For the second year in a row, I have a kiddo graduating from high school and heading to college! The next couple of months will be filled with prom dresses and graduation parties and this paper plate photo booth backdrop is taking center stage at my daughter’s colorful party in May!
When we hosted my son’s graduation party last spring, we took photos of him with every single guest and it was one of the best things I did. Those photos are so fun to look back on: a collection of people that have loved and supported him through his life. I plan to take all those same photos at my daughter’s party and Kennedy came up with this fabulous idea for her photo booth backdrop. The colors and the dimension add such a fun element and this backdrop, while somewhat time consuming, is really easy to make.
All you’ll need is a large piece of wood to use as the base {I have a large piece of beadboard that I’ve used for a number of backdrops} and paper plates. Choose any color scheme you want and use both large dinner size plates and smaller dessert size plates.
Use a glue gun to attach the plates to the backboard. The easiest way to do it is to begin attaching plates in a random way, alternating colors and sizes. Continue filling in spaces, overlapping some plates.
You’re done when every square inch of your board is covered. Cover the edges by allowing the plates to overlap the edge of the board.
The final look of the backdrop is so fun, isn’t it? I love that Kennedy chose such bold colors for her graduation party instead of the traditional black and white or metallics. It suits her colorful personality!
Once the backdrop is complete, you’ll just need some photo booth props. We’ll be using a fun variety of props, including these most likely photo booth stick signs …
… small paper celebration flags {they pop out perfectly against the colorful backdrop} …
… and large black picture frame cutouts in a few different shapes.
Set up the photo booth backdrop in a central location where guests can’t miss it …
… and let the party guests ham it up for the camera!
The props are a great way to draw guests out of their comfort zone …
… and capture some really fun memories and moments.
Now all you have to do is create a custom snapchat filter for your party …
… and you’re all set for a memorable graduation party!
