Pantry Door Chalkboard

This week my pantry door got a pretty and practical update: a pantry door chalkboard.  I love how it turned out and it gives us all a central location to jot down items that need to be picked up at the store.

I was inspired by this kitchen chalkboard {you can find other fun ideas for the kitchen on my pinterest board} but decided to make it a bit smaller, a bit more hidden, and a bit more colorful.  I painted my chalkboard on the inside of my itty bitty pantry door.  {Our house is large enough to easily house our family but the pantry certainly wasn’t designed with a large family in mind.  The pantry is a small closet inside the laundry room … not particularly convenient or practical for a family of seven but we make it work.}

I taped off a rectangle shape and painted it with chalk finish paint in a bright color.  When the paint was dry, I painted over it with two coats of chalkboard coating {chalkboard coating can turn any paint into a chalkboard surface}.

When the coating was completely dry, I added a few mixed letters as a label.  I decided to mix them up and I like the eclectic look it gives.  I had the larger vintage letters in my stash and found the small letters at ReStore for five cents each.

The final touch was a painted wrought iron drawer pull that holds chalk.  I love using drawer pulls as chalk holders and used them on my cabinet door chalkboard as well as our art table.

This project, not including drying time, took less than an hour, and adds a fun, quirky touch {and a bit of color} to our home.

      I really don’t have any great tips … I just use a damp towel when mine gets really grungy.
