How to Make Sidewalk Paint

Yesterday I shared Tate’s colorful painting party and, as promised, today I want to show you how to make sidewalk paint.  This sidewalk paint is super easy to make and the kids will love it!

Painting with sidewalk paint is not only a fun outdoor activity for the kids {and I love anything that gets my kids to play outside} but sidewalk paint is simple and inexpensive to make and uses ingredients found at any grocery store {or probably in your own pantry}.

To make sidewalk paint, you’ll need small containers {I found these cute containers in the art supply section of my local craft store}, cornstarch, food coloring, and water.

In each container, mix 1/4 cup of cold water with 1/4 cup of cornstarch.  Stir until the cornstarch is completely dissolved then add drops of food coloring and mix until you reach the desired shade.  I’ve used liquid, paste, and gel food coloring and they’ve all worked equally well.

The paint will settle as it sits so give the containers a good shake before using.

Let the kids go to town, painting every sidewalk in sight.  The paint stays bright after it dries but will wash away easily with a hose or a rainstorm.

Mix up a batch of sidewalk paint and brighten up your neighborhood!
