A Painting Party

Tate is officially four and we celebrated last weekend with a colorful painting party!  Tate had such a great time and the party was bright and fun with lots of DIY details.

I hung a large number four made from paint swatches on the front door {inspiration found here} …

… and greeted guests with an art easel embellished with vinyl letters and a row of paint swatches.

painting party

The table was set with lots of bright colors, all inspired by the hand-painted invitations that Tate made.

painting party

I made a banner by tying yellow wet paint signs {found at the hardware store} together with tulle and then hung it behind the table.

painting party

The place settings were bright and colorful.  I made place cards out of paint sticks dipped in paint and added vinyl names cut on my Silhouette.

painting party

Rather than buying colored paper plates, I used cheap white plates and painted lines on them with food coloring mixed with water {inspiration found here}.

painting party

I used paint-dipped mason jars for cups {inspiration found here} and stuck a pom pom embellished polka dot straw in each one.

painting party

Each place also had a paint-dipped spoon stuck in a paint swatch cutlery holder {I folded a paint swatch in half and stitched it up the sides}.

painting party

The goody bags doubled as the table centerpiece.  I made the goody bags from empty paint cans and stuffed them with art supplies.  To give the cans a more authentic look and add some color, I squeezed some paint along the rim of each can and let it drip down.

painting party

Once all the kids had arrived, we settled outside to paint under a shady tree in the backyard.

painting party

Each child received a painting apron with their initial painted on the front …

… along with a canvas and paint brush.

painting party

The kids all painted a piece of art to take home …

painting party

… and they also all contributed to one canvas that Tate got to keep as a souvenir from her party.

painting party

While the canvases were drying, I set out little jars of sidewalk paint {I’ll share this recipe tomorrow}.

painting party

The partygoers painted the sidewalk …

… and Kennedy did a little face painting.

painting party

When everyone had finished painting and had worked up a good sweat running around the backyard, we came inside to open gifts and eat cake and ice cream.

I gave each of the kids a circle of white fondant and let them decorate their own cupcake with edible markers …

painting party

… and then devour their creations.

painting party

Our painting party was a big success and Tate had so much fun celebrating with her friends!

The aprons are from Hobby Lobby but most craft stores will carry them. I found them in with all of the canvas tote bags. I hope that helps!
