Halloween is upon us and if you’re throwing a party, I have some simple tips for creating a Halloween tablescape for kids! These ideas can be copied easily even if you don’t have the exact same items I do. A total score, right?
I used mostly black and white to create this tablescape. I layered the table with a white cloth then hit up my fabric stash for some black and white fabric. Polka dots seemed festive but any pattern {or even a solid color} would work. If you don’t have a fabric stash, you can buy a small piece of fabric or even a remnant for just dollars at a fabric or craft supply store.
I set each place with black and white Halloween-themed plates from Wisteria. These were a total score for me! I got two sets from a friend who was clearing out her stash and another matching set at Goodwill. If you don’t have Halloween plates, use black or white paper plates, or layer both colors together for more contrast.
For simple place cards, I used pumpkin-shaped marshmallows marked with a monogram written with edible marker.
Every party has to have paper straws {am I right?} and mixing two different patterns adds a cute and whimsical look.
Ghost napkins add a not-so-spooky touch to each place setting. To make them, bunch white cloth napkins into a ghost shape …
… and set edible eyes or googly eyes on top. So simple but the kids will love it!
If possible, I like to include a form of entertainment in my tablescapes for kids. This crayon pumpkin doubles as a centerpiece and entertainment.
To make it, I drilled holes into a faux white pumpkin {drill the holes just slightly smaller than the crayon diameter so the crayons won’t slip right inside the pumpkin} and stuck in crayons in Halloween colors.
The table runner is made from sheets of white paper, giving the kids a spot to color and also adding some bright white to the table top. If you don’t want to use sheets of paper, roll out a piece of art paper or use the back of wrapping paper in a pinch {it’s often white and unmarked}. A few simple spiders crawling across the paper make it feel a bit more like Halloween.
See how easy it is to create a Halloween tablescape for kids? Look around your house, grab items in the color you want, and think about ways to repurpose them to make a fun table for your little ones!
