Tate’s flower pot costume, this year’s homemade Halloween costume, was a showstopper at our neighborhood event and won her first prize in the costume contest!  It didn’t hurt that she hammed it up and looked absolutely adorable!

My inspiration for this costume came from Clumsy Crafter.  I altered it just a bit, using a different style container that was easy to cut and changing the handles to use something we already had at home.

I love this idea because it’s so simple.  It took less than an hour to put it together and it cost less than ten dollars.  Simple, cheap, and seriously cute!

How to Make a Flower Pot Costume

To make the costume, I bought a large thin plastic tub at Walmart.  I wanted something that would be really easy to cut through with regular scissors.  I trimmed the bottom out of the tub so Tate’s legs would easily fit through and she would still be able to walk with full strides.

I cut four long strips of pink duct tape, attached the sticky sides together then attached the ends {with more duct tape} to the inside of the bucket.  Those duct tape strips held the tub onto Tate like suspenders.  A little hot glue will ensure that the handles don’t pull off.

The only step left is to grab piles of flowers from the dollar store and hot glue them to the inside of the tub, filling in all the spaces {leave a small space for the arms}, and glue one on to a headband.  While you could use any color or a lot of different colors, a monochromatic tone is really cute.  Super simple but so adorable!

Tate loved her flower pot costume!  I can’t wait to dress her up again on Halloween.

It’s just from Walmart, if I remember right. It’s a huge plastic bucket, found in with the storage supplies or laundry items.

The straps are made of duct tape placed sticky side to sticky side and then I duct taped the ends to the inside of the plastic tub. Hope that makes sense!

love this costume. your daughter is too adorable. If thats possible. lol! I work at an elementary school and we all always dress up every year along with the students. As an adult its getting hard to find a costume thats appropriate to wear. So I have started doing mine myself and I just love this flower pot you have made. And I do believe the children will too. Thanks for sharing
