We celebrated Tate’s sixth birthday last weekend with a girl’s day out and these gumball necklaces with edible pendants were a huge hit with the girls! I’ve seen plenty of bubblegum necklace tutorials before but I’ve never seen one with a monogrammed pendant that you can actually eat and since it turned out super cute I thought you’d enjoy seeing how I made them!
For each necklace you’ll need one lollipop {I used lollipops that were about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide} and a handful of large gumballs in your color scheme. I used ten gumballs on each necklace. You can probably find both the gumball and lollipops at a local party store unless you’re looking for a specialty color. I ordered the gold gumballs and lollipops online.
To make the monogrammed pendant, fold the stick of the lollipop in half and tape it in place with clear tape, leaving a space at the top of the fold to string the ribbon through.
In a font you like, print each monogram onto sticker paper and cut it out with a circle punch …
… then affix it onto the front of the lollipop. {I left the lollipops wrapped because our heat and humidity will make a quick mess out of an unwrapped lollipop.}
Cut a long piece of ribbon or tulle and string the pendant on {through the loop made by the folded stick} until it’s sitting in the middle. Using a large bore needle and ribbon or tulle, thread the ribbon through the gumballs, adding an equal number on each side of the pendant. If it’s difficult to pull the needle through, use pliers to grasp it and yank it through.
Tie a knot in the ribbon between each gumball.
When the gumballs are in place, the pendant will be held between the gumballs and will hang perfectly.
I nestled the necklaces in pink shred and placed them in pink to-go boxes for the girls as a sweet surprise at the beginning of our afternoon out. After all, little ladies should be dressing in style for a day on the town, shouldn’t they?
This necklace is so beautiful Randi! I love that it’s made of gumballs and a lollipop!
