A Simple Reading Spot

I received compensation from BHG at Walmart for my participation in the BHG Live Better Network.  However, all thoughts and opinions are my own. #BHGLiveBetter

When I was growing up I always wanted a window bench or a little reading spot.  It just sounded like the perfect place to daydream an afternoon away or get lost in a good book.  That may be why I love creating quaint, personalized spaces in my home.  This reading spot is my latest sweet spot and I love everything about it.

At the top of our stairs is a small space, wasted really, unless used for something fun.  For years I’ve had a small bookshelf there topped with a shadowbox containing an heirloom dress but I decided it was time for something different.  The shelf got moved to another spot and these fun pieces found a new home!

This corner chair {a recent DIY project} was perfect for this small corner.  I added two patterned yellow pillows for a pop of color.

I love the burst of yellow but the pom pom trim sold me.  It adds such a playful touch to ordinary pillows.  And the price point on these pillows can’t be beat!

I wanted a small table next to the chair to serve as a place to set a cup of coffee or store a few books.  This blue end table is perfect!  The slim, simple design coordinates so well with the simple lines in the corner chair and I love the contrast of the blue with the yellow pillows.

I have a thing about little drawers and this one is just too cute.  It’s perfect for housing a notepad and pen or maybe a few favorite snacks.

I added a whimsical owl candleholder and set it on top of two of my favorite vintage books.

One of my favorite touches in this reading spot is the framed drawing of our family that hangs on the wall above the side table.  My daughter drew a picture of our family {dog included} and I framed it in a planked frame.  I just love the off-center, stick-person rendition of our big family!  It adds such a personal touch to this space and makes me smile every time I look at it.

This colorful, restful spot has quickly become a favorite and I’m looking forward to grabbing a few quiet moments each day to sit in this chair …

I love those pillows, too! You’re right, it’s the pom pom fringe that totally makes it. And that framed portrait of your family is utterly adorable!
