Graduation Party Backdrop

I’m busy planning a graduation party for my high school senior {insert a few tears here} and this graduation party backdrop is going to provide a themed focal wall for the food table.  Upcycled from large square paper plates, this graduation cap backdrop is really easy to make, completely affordable, and takes very little time … which is perfect for this crazy time of year!

To make it, you’ll need black square paper plates, gold yarn, and a glue gun.  You can use dinner or cocktail size plates, depending how you want your backdrop to look.  I used large plates which allowed me to cover more area with less work.  If you use smaller plates, you’ll obviously need more and the backdrop will look a bit busier.

To make this graduation party backdrop, decide how many graduation caps you’ll need for your space then make a gold tassel for each plate.  You can make the tassels easily by wrapping yarn around your fingers, cutting the bottom loop …

… and tying a piece of yarn about an inch from the top of the tassel.  If you’re using larger plates and want the tassels to be a bit larger as well, wrap the yarn around a book to increase the length.

Use a dab of hot glue to attach a gold tassel to the center of each plate …

Be careful not to use something that will destroy the finish on your walls.

This upcycled idea is really simple and can be whipped up in less than thirty minutes, providing the perfect backdrop for your graduation party.  And wouldn’t it be fun for a photo booth backdrop?
