Friendsgiving Celebration

I love the Friendsgiving trend.  Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays and I love the idea of having an additional celebration with a group of special friends.  This week my daughter hosted a Friendsgiving celebration with a group of her friends and I thought you’d enjoy seeing the details.

We chose a metallic color scheme with hints of navy.  The colors were actually inspired by some great finds in the dollar spot at Target and we added some other details to round it out.  I love the look of mixed metallics and the touches of navy are a great balance.

These plates and chargers were a serendipitous find from At Home.  I wanted something to add some color and flair to the table but didn’t want to invest in new dishes or use paper plates.  When I found these sets, I knew they’d be perfect.  The chargers are actually a heavy cardboard and the plates are heavy plastic.  They’re all disposable but can probably be washed and reused a number of times.  And they look like real dishes which lent a classy look to the table.

I topped each plate with navy napkins and navy and gold chalkboard tags from the dollar spot.  The tags made perfect little place cards and I just wrote each guest’s initial in lower case cursive.

I mixed gold and silver together in each place setting and it looked really pretty.  I love the large square chargers!  They were perfect for filling the table space and adding a bright flair.

For drinks, I set out small wine goblets with paper straws cut in half.

The centerpiece was simple.  I covered the table in burlap, set a muslin style runner in the center {also a dollar spot find}, scattered metallic plaid wooden leaves down the runner {dollar spot}, and placed my rustic pumpkins in the center.  I tied the stems with burlap ribbon with gold threads running through it.

I love the little details so I added acorn salt and pepper shakers to the table along with a turkey dish filled with cranberries and gold and white argyle plates filled with olives {a must at our Thanksgiving feasts}.

I hauled my potting bench in from outside and used it as a drink station in the dining room.  We served water and soda and set out the crockpot full of hot apple cider.  I strung a dollar spot garland across the potting bench to tie it in with the tablescape.

I roasted a turkey and made stuffing and the guests brought all the additional sides and dessert.

I loved listening to the laughter coming from the dining room and seeing the empty plates at the end of the meal.  The aftermath of a fun dinner is one of my favorite things!

This Friendsgiving celebration was so much fun and we may have to make it an annual tradition!
