Are you a cat lover?  Have you got a house full of kitties … or wish that you did?  If you love cats, or know someone who does, you’ll want to pin this recipe for easy homemade cat treats.  This recipe is quick and easy to make and will have every cat in the neighborhood lining up at your door when the smell of tuna starts wafting through the air!

easy homemade cat treats

To make a batch of cat treats, in a bowl combine a 6 ounce can of tuna in oil {undrained}, 1 cup cornmeal, 1 cup flour, and 1/3 cup water.  Mix well with a spoon or your hands.

Roll the treat dough out on the counter or another solid surface until it’s 1/4 inch thick.  Cut the dough into small bite-size pieces …

… or use a tiny pastry cutter to create little shapes that are just the right size for a cat.

Place on a greased cookie sheet.  Don’t worry about leaving much space between the biscuits … they won’t spread as they bake.  Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or until hard and cooked through.

Let the treats cool then store them in a cute and customized cat treat mason jar and refrigerate to prevent spoiling.

Your cat will love this purr-fectly delicious treat but be warned … the dog may love them too!  My dog was a very willing taste tester for these fishy treats!

I honestly have never thought of making my own treats for my cats before! This was a great post and you explained it well. I would love it if you shared this post on my weekly link party : )

My cats would love these, but I’m not at all sure they would wait for me to mix the tuna up in the cat treat dough, let alone bake them. They’re used to demanding tuna straight from the can. 🙂

Great idea as I love knowing exactly what is in the treats! What is the shelf life and could theyy be frozen? Many thanks for sharing this recipe!

They’ll last a few weeks in an airtight container but they could also definitely be frozen!

We are in a pinch, being under (voluntary) quarantine, we have all ingredients except tuna. My granddaughter wants to make these for her kitty’s bday. Could we use a 4.5 oz can of chicken breast instead? Thank you 🙂

I would definitely try that! As long as cats can eat chicken, I think it would be great!
