My girls are in love with mermaid sequin fabric!  They have to play with it every time we see a pillow made with it {I’m always a bit tempted to play with it too!} and I thought it would be really fun to make DIY mermaid sequin wall art for my youngest daughter’s room.  This project is so basic and simple but looks really cute in a young or tween girl’s room or a child’s play space and will add some fun entertainment for the kiddos!

If you’re not familiar with mermaid sequin fabric, the sequins are reversible so they’re one color when they’re all facing one direction and they change color when they’re flipped by running a hand or finger over them in another direction.  Pretty cool, right?

To make mermaid sequin wall art, you’ll need a frame that will coordinate well with the color of the mermaid sequin fabric and enough mermaid sequin fabric to fit your frame.  If you’ve got an old frame sitting around in your garage, this is the perfect way to use it.

Remove the glass or plastic from the frame, then lay the mermaid fabric over the backing of the frame {it may be wood or cardboard} and cut the fabric so it overlaps about an inch on every side.

Very carefully, without the glass, lay the frame over the fabric and press the frame down to fit over the back.  It will be a bit of a tight fit because of the thickness of the fabric but that keeps the fabric in place.

… and hot glue the fabric down in between so the back appears neat and the fabric won’t shift within the frame.

It’s as easy as that … although having an extra pair of hands definitely makes it easier to get everything in place.
