Do you use dryer sheets in your laundry? I recently started making my own DIY dryer sheets to reduce static cling and add a fresh scent to the clothes. It’s really easy {and really cheap} to make your own … and they’re reusable!
To make your own DIY dryer sheets, grab some scraps of fabric from your stash. You can use almost anything but a cotton blend will probably work best. I used muslin. Cut squares. My squares are about three inches by three inches, but again, you can make them any size you want. I started with about fifteen. Since they’re reusable, you don’t need many.
In a glass jar, combine one cup of water with one cup of white vinegar.
Add twenty drops of your favorite essential oil or a combination of two or three. I like to use citrus fresh essential oil but there are lots of different scents that would work well.
{I dilute the vinegar with water to avoid a vinegar smell in our clothing. If you still detect any vinegar scent after drying, you could increase the number of drops of essential oil. I don’t recommend eliminating the vinegar since that is what will cut the static.}
Toss the fabric squares into the mixture and allow them to get fully saturated with the solution.
You really only need a small mason jar since there are only a handful of squares but I couldn’t resist using this vintage laundry rinse bottle. I found it in Canada in the summer and my Mom put it away for my birthday. It’s one of my favorite vintage finds.
That’s it! Toss one square in each dryer load and, when the load is dry, throw it back in the solution to be used again.

Neither my husband nor I can tolerate the harsh scents/chemicals of most products and use a LOT of vinegar (as well as baking soda and apple cider vinegar) in household cleaning!
I merely add vinegar into the bleach/rinse cycle of my washer, but this is a nice way to add the essential oil component, brilliant!
Dryer sheets are so expensive! I’m trying this and thank you for another great idea. 🙂

Do you leave the sheets soaking in the solution and put them in the dryer wet? I want to make sure I understand – trying this soon.
Yes! I just leave them in the solution in that jar all the time and pull them out wet to use.
