When I was in Iowa at the Better Homes and Gardens headquarters, we were lucky enough to listen to some of the talented stylists tell us about the decorating trends we’ll be seeing this fall. I was relieved to hear that some of my favorite trends will be sticking around and some fabulous new trends will be popping in. I figured you’d love hearing the trends as much as I did so here they are!
1. Blue is big.
We’ll be seeing a lot of blue in home decor this fall and in many ways, blue will be used as a neutral. Blue and white will be big but blue is successful with any shade. Orange, green, yellow, and coral are just a few of the colors you’ll see mixed with blue.
2. Color, color, color.
It’s time to embrace bright colors in your home. You don’t have to paint your hallway bright yellow {smile} but you’ll see bright color added to rooms through a vivid pillow or a colorful throw added to the back of the couch. And don’t be afraid to mix and match.
3. Black and white are not optional.
You’ll see black and white everywhere this fall and even if you don’t use a lot of black and white in your decorating, add a few pieces to a room. Black works with any color and it’s a fun way to bring in some pattern.
4. Farmhouse luxury is here to stay.
That rustic charm that we’ve all gladly embraced isn’t going anywhere. We’ll continue to see large weathered farmhouse tables, rustic shelving, and wire baskets. I’m so glad this trend isn’t going anywhere!
5. Burlap is also sticking around.
Don’t ditch that burlap tablecloth just yet. You’ll continue to see burlap used in decor this fall, from table runners to lamp shades, and everything in between. It’s the perfect blend for farmhouse luxury and that natural look always adds a warm touch to any room.
6. Don’t forget about texture.
This fall, you’ll see faux fur cushions, fluffy throws, and pintucked quilts edging into decor as texture continues to play a big role in current trends. Layer small cushions and throws to really capture this look.
7. Nailhead trim is coming back.
Did it ever really go away? If you love the finished, upholstered look or the industrial charm, you’ll happily see a lot of it this fall. Nothing looks better on an upholstered headboard, right?
I don’t know about you but I love the farmhouse luxury trend and I’m excited about working some blue into my home {the master bedroom is up first}.
What decorating trend are you most excited about?
Thanks for sharing these tips. They’re all so great and how fun to get the inside scoop from B&G designers!
I’m an especially big fan of using blue as a neutral, it’s so much more fun than the others neutrals 🙂
