Creative Lettering {A Book Review}

I received this book from Lark Crafts but received no further compensation and was not asked to provide a review.

I love pretty, unique fonts and hand-lettering so when I had the opportunity to review the book  Creative Lettering, I was really excited about it.

Creative Lettering from Lark Crafts

It’s such a neat book and I love the way it’s written.  It features a combination of font styles and tips from different lettering artists and the variety is both inspiring and challenging {and makes you want to grab a pen and paper and start doodling}.

There were a few styles that jumped out at me and I decided it would be fun to hand-letter the invitations for Tate’s upcoming birthday party.

And I decided to mix and match a couple of different styles.

I practiced a bit on some scrap paper …

… and then gathered some supplies to tackle the real thing.  Lined paper under my blank page made it much easier to keep my letters somewhat uniform {my type A personality can’t handle things getting too crazy!}.

I had to try a few times but I ended up with a hand-lettered invitation that I love.

I’m planning to tackle some more of the lettering styles in the book {like this fun confetti style} so you’ll likely see some creative lettering in upcoming projects.

I’m curious: do you prefer hand lettering or the straight predictable font of a computer?

    I usually prefer computer fonts just for continuity and readability. Now, if I was handy enough to have nice legible handwriting/lettering, I might prefer the latter.

    I’ve actually wanted to buy this book for awhile! I love handlettering things, but I always seem to stick with the same couple of styles. I’d love to get some new ideas! Thanks for the review.
