A Repurposed Dresser

I just finished one of my favorite repurposing projects ever: I repurposed a dresser into a reading bench for Luke.  And it turned out so cute!

The dresser used to look like this.  My awesome neighbor {who is always watching for curbside treasures for me} called to let me know that she had spotted a dresser.  She thought I might want to salvage the drawers.

At first, I was just going to use it for the drawers but then I had a fun idea to turn it into something more.

the original dresser

I popped the top of the dresser off, removed the top three drawers {the top one was actually missing anyway}, and knocked out the wood brackets on the side.

I cut the top of the dresser down to size and used it as the seat for my bench, nailing it in place from the back.  The holes were filled with wood filler and I painted the whole bench with homemade chalk-finish paint {in colors that match Luke’s room}.

It turned out so cute and is such a fun little nook for Luke.  I added a few envelope-style pillows {in fabric that Luke loves} to make it a bit cozier …

… and made sure his favorite books were easily accessible.

The two remaining drawers are perfect for storing extra books and all of Luke’s treasures.

This colorful repurposed dresser was such a fun project to piece together and it’s now a fun reading spot for my little redhead.

This would be really good as a shoe bench, as well. Great idea!
