I’m so thrilled to be joining a group of bloggers for the Home for the Holidays Blog Tour brought to you by Sondra Lyn at Home! This year’s co-host is Michele from Our Rosey Life. Today’s theme is Recipes and Tablescapes and I have a fun Christmas tablescape for kids that’ll get those little Santa lovers excited about the season!
With five kids in our house, almost all big holidays include a table for the kids. And it’s always more fun when that table has a theme! My kids have never dreaded the kids’ table, in fact, they love it! This Christmas, my little guys will be dining at a table that’s all about Santa!
When decorating a table for the kids, or even for adults, I like to use items I already have. Sometimes I’ll make a quick run to the dollar store or Target but I love to “shop” from my own stash and try to repurpose items. A Santa theme is simple. Grab everything you have that’s red, add a black band for the belt, and you’re set! Let me show you what I did.
I threw a red cloth on the table {I always use a small kid-sized table} then made a table runner from large Santa hats that are actually chair covers {dollar store steals}. A little sprinkling of faux snow makes it feel a bit more wintry and festive. {And wrinkles in the linens? No big deal … the kids sure don’t care!}
I like to have one feature that really carries the theme and this year it’s the Santa plates made from disposable paper plates. While the pieces are all separate, there’s no glue involved and the entire thing is food safe.
To make them, start with a red square plate.
Using a black square plate and a craft knife or rotary cutter and ruler, cut a black stripe. Place it on top of the red plate.
Cut a square from a white plate and cut two slits along each side …
… then slide the black piece through the middle to form the belt buckle. So easy and each plate will take just a few minutes to make.
Santa napkins are a fun touch. These felt napkin holders with the red napkin hat are a craft my Mom made when we were kids. They’re cut from felt and the pieces are glued together.
I like to have a little favor at each plate and these chocolate beard pops {another dollar store find} are perfect! They do triple duty, acting as a party favor, a place card, and a super cute photo prop!
Santa cups are another easy project. Turn red cups upside down and hot glue a large pom pom on the side. Or, you can serve milk straight from a hollow chocolate Santa … just pop a straw in the top {you can see more of that idea at my Santa hot chocolate bar}.
Cutlery, a straw, and a Santa-themed Christmas cracker fit nicely into a Santa-themed bucket. This one was ready-made but you could easily make something similar.
Add a simple centerpiece …
… and toss some little chocolate Santas on the table as table confetti …
… and you’re set: a simple but festive Christmas tablescape for the kids!
Fun, right?

What an adorable table setting for kids! I love all of your ideas and plan to use your Santa plate for cookie plates for my neighbors.
This is over-the-top fabulous, Randi! Wow, you thought of everything! What I would’ve given to have sat at a table like this as a kid! Oh, who am I fooling… I’d love to sit here NOW! 😉 So great having you on the Home for the Holidays Tour!!
Such a cute idea, I’m sure your kids are going to love it! The santa cups are so adorable and the plates are also so fun and unique. I used to love sitting at the kids table when I was a child, and I think I would have enjoyed it even more if it was set like this!
What a fun idea! I’m loving all the inspiration I’m finding!
So darling! Thanks for sharing on our tour! Marry Christmas, Randi!
