Every year, we celebrate the first day of school with some type of special treat or party idea. My kids go back to school earlier this year {we’ll be super happy about it when they get out earlier next spring but right now it seems punishing} so I’ve been planning for the big day and this year I’ve decided on a back to school breakfast bar with bright primary colors and delicious food that can be made in just minutes … because I definitely don’t want to slave over the stove in the midst of the other first day chaos!
To set up a back to school breakfast bar, I hit up Walmart for Jimmy Dean® Pancake & Sausage on a Stick, Sausage, Egg, & Cheese Croissants, and Bacon, Egg, & Cheese Biscuits. Found in the freezer aisle and cooked in the microwave, they’re a convenient way to start the day with a delicious breakfast. Jimmy Dean Pancake & Sausage on a Stick {pancake batter covering a sausage link} are made with pork and turkey and contain 6 grams of protein per serving.
Be sure to check out this great Shopkick offer: shoppers can earn up to 400 kicks {100 per product Tyson® Chicken Nuggets or Strips, Hillshire Farm® Lunchmeats, State Fair® Corn Dogs, and Jimmy Dean Frozen Breakfast} that can be redeemed for gift cards or Fandango movie tickets.
I also hit up the school supplies aisles and found some things I could use as simple and inexpensive party decor.
I used notebook paper to make a table cover and banner, I created a backdrop from colorful three-prong folders, and I used colored pencils hot glued to a mason jar to hold napkins {how cute are these napkins that look like notebook paper?}. None of the ideas took much time to make but themed decor always makes it feel more like a party.
I heated the Jimmy Dean breakfast items in the microwave …
… then displayed them in cute ways.
I wrapped another mason jar in notebook paper and set the Jimmy Dean Pancake & Sausage on a Stick into the jar …
… and wrapped the breakfast sandwiches in notebook paper wrappers …
… and then set them in plastic pencil boxes with colorful lids.
I also hot glued crayons together to hold food labels …
… and set out colorful straws and wrapped juice bottles with notebook paper.
I love the small details and since I didn’t have to spend a lot of time making food, I could use that time to really make it feel like a party. I’m hoping this will take the sting out of those early morning alarms and evenings full of homework.
Do you celebrate the first day of school? Make it easy this year with a Jimmy Dean breakfast bar … but enjoy these last days of summer first!

Adorable idea. The more you get excited about back to school the happier the kids will be when that day arrives. You’ve got my imagination tweeked!
