An Eclectic Painted Clock

This eclectic painted clock was made as a sponsored post for DecoArt.

I’m so excited to share this DIY project with you today because I love the way it turned out!  This bright eclectic painted clock was such a fun project to make and it’s the perfect wall decor for our gameroom.

To make this clock, I started with an old clock base that I had sitting in the garage {the kids had broken the clock long ago but I couldn’t bear to throw out the large base, certain it could be repurposed into something fun}.

I used Americana Multi-Surface Satin acrylic paint from DecoArt in these fabulous colors {you may remember this color combination from the game dresser I painted} …

… along with Americana stencils.  I used the houndstooth pattern on this retro mod stencil as well as a large number stencil.

I painted the background of the clock base with Americana Multi-Surface Satin in cottonball then used the houndstooth stencil with deep turquoise paint {I’m a bit smitten with turquoise lately as you’ll see in an upcoming project … and I know I’m completely late to the turquoise game}.

I stenciled in different sections …

… until I had completely covered the clock base with the houndstooth pattern.

When the background was dry, I used a large number stencil to add a few numbers to the clock …

… then added a storebought clock mechanism so my painted clock can actually function.

The final step was to add an eclectic mix of numbers to the outside of the clock face.

I used house numbers from the hardware store, wrought iron numbers from the craft store, and even a handful of stickers …

… and simply glued them on with a hot glue gun.  The mix of colored numbers against the bright houndstooth background looks so fun and so eclectic, perfect for a blank wall in our gameroom.

I love the blend of colors and I’m so thrilled with the way my painted clock looks.

And it’s a great time to plan your own painting project because right now you can buy five Americana Multi-Surface Satin Paints and get a $3 rebate.  Americana Multi-Surface Satins are available for purchase at Michaels, A.C. Moore, Hobby Lobby, and other fine craft retailers.  {Rebate is open to US residents only.}

    This is awesome! Someday, I want a house with a playroom and I want to decorate it Alice in Wonderland-style, and this would be perfect. Pinning for a future project!

    My daughter would have SO much fun with this – she’s been asking how clocks work – this project would be so fun to do to show her. Thanks for the inspiration Randi!!
