This weekend we celebrated Kennedy’s 14th birthday with a chocolate fondue party and added natural tones and burlap themed decor to set a rustic tone for the party. It was an easy party to set up and host and the girls all had a great time … and it was a great way to celebrate another year as a teenager. This party idea is perfect for tweens, teens, or even younger kids … because who doesn’t love a chocolate fondue?
I made an embroidery hoop banner and hung it on the wall over the table {click that link for the tutorial} …
… and covered the table with the seamed burlap tablecloth I recently made.
We used square brown paper plates and napkins and set bowls of chopped nuts and individual containers of peanut butter at each place {because who can resist chocolate and peanut butter mixed together or marshmallows dipped into chocolate and then into chopped nuts?}.
I set out mason jars with decorative flower lids for italian soda {click here for a recipe to make your own italian soda} and tied the jars and water bottles with strips of burlap. And of course we had striped paper straws because I love paper straws for a party!
The centerpiece and the party entertainment and activity was a chocolate fountain.
I set the dipping food out on the kitchen island. The girls used skewers wrapped with washi tape for dipping …
… and I used brown washi tape to embellish a little twine and skewer garland on the cake as well.
We had a rice krispie cake {made by packing homemade rice krispie treats into cake pans and then stacking them} …
… and we served it right at the beginning of the party.
Before we cut into the cake, the guests wrote wishes on pieces of paper that we tied to the candles.
We stuck the candles into the cake, Kennedy blew them out, and we cut the cake and added it to the buffet of fondue dippers.
The buffet was full of Kennedy’s favorite foods to dip: canned pineapple and oranges and marshmallows …
… a variety of cookies and pound cake …
… and lots of fresh fruit.
Is there anything that doesn’t taste better covered in chocolate?
The girls helped themselves to plates full of food and then sat at the table and ate and laughed and ate way too much chocolate. Just right for a group of teenage girls!
At the end of the night, the girls went home with burlap party favors.
