I’ve been doing a pile of Halloween crafting lately and using my Cricut and pens a lot!  The pens are such a quick and easy way to whip up a gift tag.  If you plan to give out any sweet treats to friends this Halloween, or you’ll be making boo baskets for neighbors, this simple ‘you’re the ghoul-est’ Halloween gift tag makes a great topper for your coolest friend!

Supplies Needed for the Halloween Gift Tag

To make this Halloween gift tag, you’ll need your Cricut machine, the file I created {see the link in the next paragraph}, white cardstock, a green standard grip cutting mat, and pens.  I used black, orange, and green pens for this project, all in a 1.0 mm size.

You’ll also need some ribbon, tulle, or twine to tie the tag onto the gift.

I created this Halloween gift tag in Cricut Design Space and you can click the link to use the file as well.  You can also customize it, if needed.

How to Use the Contour Tool to Change an Image

If you’re planning on creating your own design, let me explain how I changed the colors on this image.  Because this image was all one piece, I wasn’t able to detach it and change colors.

Instead, I duplicated the image twice.  On the first image, I used the contour tool to remove the eyes and mouth {you simply select contour, then click on everything you want removed}.  On the second image, I removed everything except the eyes, and on the third image, I removed everything except the mouth.  I changed the eye and mouth colors, then moved them onto the first image and used the align tool to center.  It was a bit time consuming but an easy way to alter an image that can’t be detached.

You’re the Ghoulest Halloween Gift Tag

Once the design was ready, I sent it to my Cricut Maker where it sketched the design {the machine will tell you when to change pen colors} and cut the hole and edge of the tag.
