Believe it or not, Halloween is right around the corner and it’s time to start thinking about costumes. Homemade Halloween costumes are my favorite and I’ve been making them for years! When my older kids were little, I’d spend hours sewing elaborate dinosaur and kangaroo costumes but as I had more kids, I came to appreciate simple costumes a whole lot more {wink}! This Uno group costume for Halloween is inexpensive and easy to make {especially because you can use the design I created} and it’s the perfect idea for a few siblings or a group of friends. Mom and Dad can even join the kids and dress up for a fun night of family trick or treating!
To make the Uno group Halloween costume, you’ll need shirts in various colors to match the designs, Cricut Everyday Iron-on in white, black, yellow, red, blue, and green, the Cricut Maker, and the Cricut EasyPress or EasyPress 2 in the largest size.
I’ve already created the design in Cricut Design Space. You can use the Uno costume pattern by clicking the link and cutting the design on the Cricut Maker. Don’t forget to mirror the image before cutting and place the shiny side down on the cutting mat.
I absolutely love the Cricut Maker! I’m a huge fan of all Cricut products and use them almost daily but the Cricut Maker is truly the Ultimate Smart Cutting Machine. With the advanced rotary blade and adaptive tool system that includes the scoring wheel and knife blade, you can make virtually any project on hundreds of materials. You can use your own designs or the designs available in Cricut Design Space to add DIY projects to every area of your home and life!
And it definitely makes things like costume-making a breeze!
Once all the pieces are cut and weeded {the Cricut BrightPad and tool set make weeding easy!}, preheat the Cricut EasyPress 2 to 315 degrees {this is the setting for adhering Everyday Iron-on onto a cotton shirt} or a setting that matches the materials you’re using.
Place the shirt on the Cricut EasyPress mat {different mat sizes are available for the different sizes of EasyPress 2 machines} and follow instructions to adhere the Iron-on onto the shirt. You’ll want to preheat the shirt for a few seconds, press the design on for 30 seconds on the front, 15 seconds on the back, and then peel the backing off.
The Uno costume design is layered so you’ll start each shirt with the large oval pieces and then layer the other pieces on top. In case it isn’t clear, the black pieces are the shadow underneath the logos so you’ll layer those with just a bit of the black peeking out.
It’s as simple as that!
Pair the shirts with black leggings {or shorts for boys} for a super cute, easy, and inexpensive handmade Halloween!
Handmade Halloween costumes are fun for all ages, from the littles up to the tweens and teens …
… and I love that the Cricut Maker makes it so easy to make DIY Halloween crafts and costumes.
