Knit Birthday Hat

I just finished Tate’s knit birthday hat that she’ll wear at her first birthday party and I couldn’t love it more.  It’s the icing on the cake for her birthday outfit and the perfect topper for my youngest baby!

When I saw the Celebrate Hat pattern on Petite Purls there was no question in my mind that I’d make it for Tate’s birthday.  I fell in love with it immediately!  It’s whimsical and cute and such a fun project for someone who loves to knit, which I definitely do.

I knit the birthday hat with an organic worsted cotton and used colors that complement the birthday shirt and ruffled skirt she’ll wear to her posies and pinwheels first birthday party.  Pink and orange is one of my favorite bold color combinations.

The hat

I love the big thick and fluffy pom pom that sits on top of the hat …

… and the polka dots and knit ruffle around the bottom edge are both such cute details.

The hat

The birthday hat has a knit lining and an elastic to hold it on Tate’s little head and gets its structure from inexpensive plastic canvas that sits between the outer knit cone and the inner knit liner.  It’s a clever pattern and a fun project to knit.

I can’t wait to see it on Tate on the big day!  Won’t it be cute and festive for first birthday photos?

Not a knitter?  Don’t worry … I believe there’s a crochet version available as well!  And if you don’t knit or crochet, check out this adorable felt birthday hat and this knit birthday crown!

For another cute knitting project for kids, be sure to check out this adorable knit princess {or prince} crown!  It makes a fun addition to the dress-up box!

I LOVE this, it’s so cute! My Mom crochets and I have learned, I just don’t have the patience. It’s back on my list of things to do, though!
