When I posted about summer entertaining earlier this week, I told you I’d share my recipe for the best crockpot baked beans. I serve this recipe all the time, especially during the summer months, and it always gets rave reviews from friends and family alike! It’s my go-to side dish to take to a summer barbecue or potluck and always the most requested recipe during the spring and summer months!
This baked beans recipe is not only a delicious side dish for summer but, since it’s made in the crockpot, it keeps the house from getting heated up … which is always a score here in Texas!
Throw the ingredients in the crockpot in the morning and this delicious side dish will be ready in the afternoon. Take it to a potluck, serve it alongside burgers and hot dogs, or eat it with your favorite smoked meat!
You can also make substitutions if you prefer a different type of bean or regular bacon instead of turkey bacon. I’ve even thrown in a package of bacon bits in a pinch!
The Best Crockpot Baked Beans Recipe
To make this easy baked beans recipe, you’ll need ketchup, mustard, brown sugar, an onion, salt, ground ginger, molasses, turkey bacon, and great northern beans.
{Ingredient measurements and full instructions can be found in the printable recipe card further down in this post.}
Plan on setting aside at least four hours to let the flavors really blend together in the crockpot but you can let it cook or warm all day and it will taste as good later as it did when you first made it. If you have leftovers, be sure to save them in the fridge in an airtight container. This recipe reheats well.

I needed this. I’ve tried a few recipes and we just didn’t like them. This looks so good.

I often host picnics at the lake and your crock-pot baked beans would be an easy side to make. I like the addition of turkey bacon so that it’s a bit healthier. I’m pinning!

Thank you for sharing your recipe and making the steps easy for all to understand. I have added a link to your page from my blog. I do hope that is ok. If not please let me know and I will remove it.
Thank you!

What size cans of beans are they? The soup can sized ones dontseem like enough to fill a crockpot, so I got the large cans. I dont know if I need to double or triple the other ingredients or not now. Help! lol
Randi Dukes says
14.5 ounce cans. I often double the recipe for my family of seven and triple it for a bigger crowd.

Thanks 🙂

I doubled the recipe ingredients and uswd two 40.5 oz cans and added another 1/2 cup of ketchup to cut the sweetness a bit. Turned out great! Thanks for the great recipe 🙂

What is your recommendation for oven baking this recipe?
Randi Dukes says
I wouldn’t oven bake it but you could definitely cook it in a large pot on the stovetop. Just let it simmer for a few hours.

Baked beans recipe that doesn’t start with a base of canned pork and beans! Very excited to try this one!
Heidi says
I’m making this for a party of 40. Do U triple all the ingredients??? What type of mustard??? Yellow??
Thanx,
Heidi
Randi Dukes says
Yes, I’d triple the ingredients. You probably can’t fit much more than that in your crockpot. Yellow mustard … prepared not dry.

No one in my family liked this recipe. I will not make this ripe again.
Randi Dukes says
I’m sorry to hear that. That’s the first time I’ve ever heard anyone say they didn’t like it. What didn’t they like about it?

Making this again today with 3/4 c of the sugar. Last time I tried to cut the sugar in half, but was busted by my family. Everything else is as written and tastes great. Can’t wait till supper.

I’m trying this for the first time…about 31/2 hours to go. It seems dry in the pot….no liquid? I had this printed and thought”maybe there was more on a 2nd page”, but just pulled this up and nope, not an oz of liquid other than the molasses (hope it’s not too strong) and water from onion. BTW, I use Costco’s pre-cooked turkey bacon, which means you just put in microwave (or skillet) layers of papertowels and it crumbles nicely at 2min,30 sec on HI (directions say 45-60 seconds on HI, but bacon didn’t crumble, so went up to 21/2 minutes on HI. perfect. If you haven’t found this precooked bacon….do not hesitate. 5 stars ++

I’ve never had it look dry … the mustard, ketchup, molasses, and canned beans should add a decent amount of liquid. I hope it turned out well for you … it’s one of our favorite recipes!
