Backyard Campout Party

Today was Luke and Lila’s backyard campout party to celebrate their birthday!  I was a bit concerned that the high winds and cooler temperatures were going to put a damper on our outdoor activities but the kids all seemed to have a great time.

backyard campout party

The invitations were sent out a couple of weeks ago and all of Luke and Lila’s friends were able to come.

Phil put the tent up this morning with the sign designating it as the official campsite.

A few fun signs were also placed around the yard …

… and Luke and Lila looked so cute in their DIY camp shirts.

As the kids arrived, Kennedy and her friend, Arianna, affixed homemade tattoos to little hands …

… then we gathered up the fishing supplies and duck food and headed to the neighborhood pond down the street.  The girls fed bread to the ducks {who weren’t very hungry} and turtles and everyone tried their hand at fishing.  We had a lot of success and most of the kids caught a fish!

With the bait almost used up, we headed back home, washed up, and and cooked some hot dogs and beans on the grill.

The kids chowed down on the hot dogs then ate campfire cupcakes and camping ice cream.

No campout is complete without s’mores.  We lit a fire in the backyard chimenea and the kids ate their fill of chocolate and marshmallows.

The kids went home with Tom Sawyer style goodie bags: bandanas on sticks filled with small trinkets and treats.

Despite the chill in the air, the kids all had a really fun time and Luke and Lila loved their backyard campout party.

Oh, this looks amazing! 🙂 My favorite part, hands down, is the log discs for trays on the food table. That’s a genius idea! It looks like so much fun and your desserts are awesome.
