I’ve shared a number of DIY details for my twins’ bowling party recently and now I have the full bowling party to share!
This was a really fun party to plan and host. Hosting a mixed gender twin party is sometimes difficult as Luke and Lila get older and have different interests so we opted to go with a very gender-neutral, old-school bowling party.
Both twins love anything active and I thought they’d have a great time bowling with their friends. We sent handmade invitations a couple of weeks before the party and then planned a lot of simple but fun details.
We hosted the party at a local bowling alley but opted not to do a full party package.
Instead, we rented two lanes, paid for unlimited drinks for the partygoers, and set up our own party table right by the lanes. It worked out so well and the kids really seemed to have a great time.
I love adding homemade details to a party and although this party wasn’t over-the-top at all {none of my parties are}, I was able to add a lot of personal elements.
I added vinyl dots to the balloons to make them look like bowling balls and added duct tape stripes to the forks to make them look like bowling pins …
… and made a fabric and wood banner attached with coiled wire {like this banner}. I borrowed our number seven from my bedroom shelf {since it was their seventh birthday} and displayed the bowling lollipops in a silver tin.
The cake and cupcakes were so simple to make but looked really cute. For the pin cake, I simply made a 9×13 cake, cut it into a pin shape, and iced it. The cupcakes were equally simple.
I frosted a batch of cupcakes with white icing, then cut large circles out of black storebought fondant. I used a straw to cut the fingerholes on top.
Drinks were served in styrofoam cups but I added name labels with red stripes {like bowling pins}. Not only did they look cute, they kept the kids from mixing up their cups.
And I couldn’t resist bringing some red striped paper straws!
When it was time to serve the cake, I placed the candles in bowling ball candleholders.
To make the candleholders, I painted wooden beads black, then added white dots for fingerholes.
Luke and Lila were easily recognized in their birthday bowling shirts …
… and they had a great time with their friends.
We sent guests home with bowling ball party favors {one of my very favorite party details}.
It was such a fun time for all of us, celebrating Luke and Lila’s seventh birthday!

Those are candy favor balls and they’re available at Party City. I painted them black. Here’s the whole tutorial for that post: https://dukesandduchesses.com/a-bowling-party-bowling-ball-goody-bags/
