A shark party for the twins and their friends is on the schedule tomorrow and I want to show you the fun and simple shark party backdrop and photo prop that I made for the party. If you’ve got a jigsaw, you can whip this up in short order!
I was inspired by these fabulous sharks made from recycled materials and decided to make my own simpler version from a piece of scrap wood I found in my garage.
I drew a {very} rough sketch of my shark onto the board …
… and used a jigsaw to cut the outline. {This was my first time using my Dad’s jigsaw and I loved it … my mind is swimming with possibilities!}
In order to cut the center, I drilled a few holes {so I could stick the jigsaw in there} …
… and cut the mouth and teeth. Since sharks are a little scarred and battered, I didn’t worry about having perfectly smooth edges or even about having the shark completely even and symmetrical. I think it’ll add some character to the food table.
I gave the backdrop a rough coat of paint, using only grey …
… and white and deliberately keeping it free of details.
Luke gave the shark party backdrop the photo prop test …
… and it looked just as I hoped. I can’t wait to take photos of all the party-goers at the shark party!

That is just too stinking cute, Randi. I hope the party is a blast.
This is so cute!!! My son has a giant shark puppet that he carries around everywhere…he would love this. Pinning!
Love it! And for your first time with the jigsaw you did amazingly well! I am always in awe and completely jealous of your skills. Have fun at the party!
Definitely perfect for shark week!
such a cute idea, can’t wait until owen is old enough to do stuff like this for parties.
Oh my word, that is SO fun!!!! My son’s birthday is coming up and he LOVES sharks, I think I may need to make this for his party!!!
So freaking cute. I love this!
oh my goodness, I love this so much!
Good thing my man’s not home! If he saw this over my shoulder he’d be demanding to make one to hang on the wall beneath our paddleboards!
What a cute idea! I love it!
