Sharing the Joy Gift Basket #WorldMarket_Joy

I love Christmas!  It can be such a fun time of year, filled with parties and shopping and goodies.  It can also be a time of year when it’s really easy to think about all that we’d like to have.  I’ve tried very hard to reverse that idea in my kids’ lives {our 24 Days of Service calendar is one way we do that} and I want them to always be looking for ways they can be a blessing to others.  So when I had the chance to Share the Joy with a gift basket this week, I was really excited about it.

I went to World Market {if you follow me on Instagram, you’ll have seen this photo} and bought all kinds of goodies to create a fun gift basket for a family we know.  A couple of months ago, this family lost their husband/father to cancer.  Along with medical bills and grieving hearts, they’re facing their first holiday season without the man they love.  I know nothing can erase that heartache but our family hoped that this little basket might at least let them know that others are thinking of them and praying for them.

I left World Market with my arms loaded and a few DIY ideas in mind.  World Market has so many fun products {and such novel things for the holiday season} but I also wanted to embellish some of the things I found to make them a bit more personal.

I added red vinyl letters to some square candleholders to spell out my wish for this family …

If I had the time, I would have mixed up a batch of my favorite cocoa but instead, I bought some of World Market’s delicious Salted Caramel Cocoa and poured it into this cute jar with a chalkboard label.  {I love these jars … I’m thinking of buying some for my kitchen.}

I bought a few placemats and sewed a simple little stocking, using red placemats for the main part of the stocking and a chartreuse placemat for the cuff.  I’m thinking of doing this again for some neighbor gifts … the stocking was so quick to whip up and you could fill it with candies or other goodies.

One of my favorite parts of the gift basket was this tea towel {inspiration found here}.  I used a flour sack from World Market and cut strips from fabric I had in my stash then sewed them in a circle to make a wreath.  I love it … I’ll be making one for myself this week!

I placed all the goodies in a vintage-looking wire basket …

… and delivered it to our friends.  I was able to give it to one of the daughters and, despite her weariness, she seemed pleased and surprised.  I hope that they’ll be blessed this holiday season.

Enter now … you could be one of five winners!  {There’s a winner every week.}  But hurry … the sweepstakes ends 12/21/12.
