Painted Chalkboard Door

I’ve got some fun new wall decor in my kitchen that’s right up my repurposing alley: a painted chalkboard door.

When we ripped the desk out during our kitchen makeover, we were left with a long, very blank wall.  It held our Scripture memory board but that frame suddenly looked way too small for the space.  I decided to paint a large door and hang it there with our memory chalkboard mounted on top.

I bought an old door at ReStore and gave it a paint treatment that, honestly, could probably never be replicated.  It was a bit experimental {smile}.  I painted the door with a couple of coats of DIY chalk-finish paint, dry brushed the door with some dark stain and then rubbed it off, added some white wash, and finished it with a natural wax.  Can you tell I had no idea how to get the look I wanted?

When I was happy with the outcome, I used E6000 to attach our Scripture memory chalkboard to the door …

… and also attached a chippy vintage doorknob that I found on my last trip to Canton.

This painted chalkboard door fills this wall space perfectly and, once we finally fix the tile floor and baseboard, our kitchen makeover will be finished.

Lovely make over of an old door! I want to learn how to paint big surfaces and expand my ‘crafting’ to more areas of my home 😉 Visiting from Monday Funday linky party 😉

So you have a door on your wall that doesn’t go anywhere. Interesting.
