I was shopping at Michaels this week and came across small square burlap canvases that I knew would make super cute painted burlap coasters! For just a few dollars and a few minutes of painting, I now have colorful striped coasters sitting on my coffee table!
To make these striped coasters, start with square burlap canvases {approximately four inches by four inches}.
Choose coordinating paint colors {I almost always opt for bright colors but muted tones would also be really pretty against the burlap} and a stencil. You could also freehand a design or pattern if you don’t want to use a stencil.
Lay the stencil over the burlap coaster and use a paintbrush to lightly dab paint over the stencil. Add more paint as needed but be careful not to load your brush with too much paint or it’ll seep under the edge of the stencil, ruining the pattern.
Once each burlap coaster is painted, let them dry completely before using. {They should dry quickly since the paint isn’t very thick.}
These colorful painted coasters are so quick and simple to whip up but they add a vibrant touch of color to a room and provide a useful function as well. Always a win, right?
Package a few coasters together for a sweet homemade hostess gift …
… or a summery Mother’s Day present. Or paint a pile and keep a stash for yourself {wink}.
Either way, this simple craft is a keeper.
