My kids, the younger ones especially, love the outdoors. They love to climb trees, they love to play at the park, and they love to ride bikes. And here in Texas, we love to shoot our BB guns. Luke got his very first BB gun for Christmas last year and, after seeing what cool Christmas gifts Daisy BB Guns make, we decided to get Lila a BB gun this year so the twins can target shoot together.
I went to Academy …
… and bought a pink Daisy BB Gun, protective eye gear, and a container of BB’s. I couldn’t resist buying a pink gun and thought it would also help keep Lila’s gun separate from Luke’s.
I also added a fun little DIY touch. I used my cutting machine to cut pink vinyl letters and applied Lila’s name to her Daisy BB Gun.
And to keep everything organized, I repurposed a vintage gas mask bag {a Canton find} to hold targets, ammunition, and Lila’s protective eye gear.
Since the weather’s so great, we decided to give Lila her gun before Christmas. She couldn’t wait to get out and shoot targets. Phil and I took the twins out to a secluded area …
… loaded the BB guns, and then had a safety lesson. We don’t mind our kids shooting guns but it’s imperative that they memorize a few rules first.
Rule One: Treat a gun like it’s always loaded.
Rule Two: Never point a gun at something you’re not willing to destroy.
Rule Three: Don’t touch the trigger until the gun is pointed at the target.
Rule Four: Be sure of your target and know what’s beyond it.
Once the kids know those rules, they’re ready to handle the BB gun.
And Daisy also believes strongly in gun safety. Daisy educates roughly one million of America’s youth a year through their Ten Lesson Shooting Curriculum about BB gun use and safety {found here}.
Phil taught Lila how to handle her BB gun, how to take the safety on and off, and how to aim. When we were confident that she could handle it, we let her start shooting.
We hung targets on trees 20-30 feet away and let the kids aim and shoot.
It took a bit of practice and determination to start hitting the target …
… but with a bit of guidance, Lila became a great shot! She hit the target every time and she loved it!
It was such a great afternoon, spending time with our twins, teaching them something new, and being outside in the midst of a beautiful area.
And those targets? They got pretty battered and went home as keepsakes of our fun afternoon.

We live in the country on 5 acres and I would love to have this for my property and then when the grandchildren come over they can shoot it into the back (dried up pond) and no one should get hurt, Daisy makes a very reliable product.
